This absolutely adorable Space Opera follows the escapades of one Eva Innocente who is the captain of a ship full of real ‘characters’, some of which are aliens and others various human types. They deal with anything from psychic cats to a ruler of a planet dead set on keeping Eva as part of his harem, and anything in between. This is a great ‘found family’ story and the book reminds me of a lovely mix between Firefly and Mass Effect with a heaping pile of The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet thrown in, but with so. much. more. snark! I adore the characters and their crazy antics. The writing is easy to read, but still fun with the added obscenity or remark in Spanish as added flavor to this chaos sandwich between two covers. However, all the chaos is not overwhelming and we get plenty of character growth and interpersonal interactions between the crew. Many of which are heart warming and really funny. And, oh my good-gravy, I have learned more curse words in Spanish than I ever did in High school. Some of them are SUPER creative and make you really laugh! Anyway, the ending was action packed and was very fulfilling! Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to reading the sequel. This is going to be in my top recommendations for space opera and comedy lovers!
